Design Update

This week there are a few things to talk about. First off our new game title is Mechanical Mayhem now! I'll be focusing primarily on our gravity weapon again this week and some design changes we made along with our new name.

Gravity Weapon Changes

Initially we wanted our gravity weapon to work similarly to Garry's mod gravity gun. However, that is no longer the case. After some feedback from different sources, we decided it was best to pivot and lean into a throwing mechanic with the gravity weapon. You no longer simply grab, move, and rotate an object. You will now grab the object, bring it closer or farther away from you, and then charge up the gravity weapon and fling it wildly into the environment or at enemies!

With this new flinging mechanic brings new design opportunities. We've decided to add at least 2 different types of materials to some objects. A wood material that shatters the thrown object upon impact and then a metal material that keeps the object intact and ready to be thrown again. This will make our environment much more interactable and give more dynamic control for the player to mess around with.

More Changes

The gravity weapon of course isn't the only thing that's been worked on. Right now we have a prototype flying enemy that will shoot projectiles at the player as they traverse the environment.  While we have an attack pattern down we are still thinking about what kind of wandering pattern it should have. Any ideas? This will give our play a variety of enemies to fight in their journey to destroy the workshop from within.

Finally, we are preparing on making our final boss fight. We have already chosen what we want the boss to be while still following the same enemy theme of our game. Let's just say it has lots of legs... One of our members has already created a partial render of it and it looks great. I can't wait for all of you to see it after we have finished it!
